Robert Bassett
Robert D. Bassett, “Poet of Color,” was born on the island of Bermuda in 1951. Bassett is a colorist whose work has been influenced by the Bermuda gombey dance troupes and the Bermuda kite making tradition. He has also been influenced by the modern impressionist masters and contemporary African figurativism. He however, uses the master’s techniques in such away as to enchance his alluring painting style.
During May 1995 Robert’s work was exhibited in a one-man show at Howard University. Due to its popularity, the show was held over for two months.
Robert Bassett’s art transcends racial barriers. He says “I see myself as a universal painter. My work transcends all cultural boundaries. I want to do all that I can to contribute to the healing of a child, an adult, the nation, and the world. Because love is the key.
